Joints in the body have a predetermined resting (neutral) position with the ability to move in certain ranges. Deviation from this neutral position creates excessive strain on muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints; this is recognised as faulty postural alignment.
This faulty postural alignment can occur as a result of trauma, (motor vehicle accident, sprains, fractures and sporting injuries etc), damage from wear and tear of daily activities, overuse and repetitive movement patterns.
Faulty postural alignment can affect the muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves locally to where the pain is situated; however, it can also affect other areas of the body a long way away.
If you have ever looked at a raw lamb shank, there is a pearly white covering surrounding the flesh. This covering is called fascia. This connective tissue also encompasses your muscles.
Fascia has many roles; one in particular allows muscles to be attached to each other creating a ‘chain reaction’ of muscles, a continual sling of muscles that are attached to many bones including the spine.
When one of the muscles in the 'chain reaction' stops functioning optimally, it affects all the muscles in the sling. This applies tension to many muscles and associated joints causing muscle tightness, pain and joint stiffness.
What this means is you can have pain in one area of the body, but the source of the problem could be coming from somewhere else.
Orthopaedic assessment is used to identify the source of the problem, muscle activation techniques (low load muscle contraction) is used to re-educate/reset the loading on the muscular sling. This process decreases muscular tension throughout the sling, allowing normal function of the spine and pelvis (and other joints) to occur.
Sunlighten Infrared Sauna
Sunlighten saunas use Solocarbon™ infrared heating technology to deliver a consistent and gentle infrared heat throughout each session. Compared to traditional hot rock or steam saunas, the experience is much more comfortable – a gentle warmth that penetrates deeply to release toxins, relax soft tissue and improve full-body circulation.
A session lasts for 30 minutes, in this time you will experience a deep, purifying sweat but at no point should you experience high heat or feel uncomfortable.
The Solo System sauna delivers clinical-grade far-infrared heat that is proven to raise core body temperature and induce a deep, healthy sweat.
By combining the gentle Solocarbon heating in the solo domes with the plush comfort of the SoloPad, the Solo System delivers 360⁰ surround heat - the hardest part is staying awake!
Dry needling is the treatment of muscle pain using acupuncture needles. Dry Needling can help with conditions such as low back pain, neck pain, tension headaches, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow, knee pain, ankle sprains, post exercise muscle soreness, plantar fasciitis, muscle tension/strains & joint stiffness. Dry needling works by relaxing muscle fibres, reducing pain & restoring normal function. It has wide ranging effects including improving joint mobility, restoring muscle strength,
reducing muscle pain & even reducing inflamed soft tissues following acute injuries.
Both Dry Needling & Acupuncture use a fine filament needle or Acupuncture needle. However, Dry Needling is used to treat muscle pain & Acupuncture is used to treat general health conditions. All of our acupuncture needles are of highest quality, sterile and are single use.
Dry Needling is very safe. In a study (Brady et al. 2013) of 7629 treatments which recorded the possible adverse events related to using Dry Needling, it was found that Dry Needling had a very low percentage of serious outcomes (0.04%) as compared with the possible serious adverse reactions resulting form taking Aspirin (18.7%) & Ibuprofen (13.7%).
